You will be notified by email if you are selected for verification. You will also see it listed in the My Eligibility section of your My Info account.
You can turn in your verification materials in person or send them by mail. Please make sure that your name and student ID number are listed on attached documentation.
Schools are required to verify financial aid applications to participate in the federal aid programs. The purpose is to verify the accuracy of the reported information on the FAFSA.
To obtain an IRS Tax Return Transcript, go to www.IRS.gov. Under Tools, click on the “Get a Tax Transcript"” link and follow ensuing instructions, or call 1-800-908-9946. If you filed an amended return (IRS Form 1040X), please also submit a signed copy of your Form 1040X and a copy of your Tax Account Transcript in addition to your Tax Return Transcript. If you have been selected for verification you will have to turn in the requested documentation and complete the verification process before you will be able to receive financial aid.
The priority processing date is June 30, 2017. Turning in all of the completed documentation by the priority processing date will ensure that your financial aid will not be delayed. Once you turn in all of the requested documentation, the verification process could take 4 - 6 weeks. Turn in your verification materials as soon as possible so that you can receive your financial aid when the semester starts.
The status of your verification will be updated in the My Eligibility section of your My Info account.
Your Tax Return Transcript is created by the IRS and is a record of your tax filing while your Tax Return is what you submitted to the IRS. Your Tax Return Transcript is required for the verification process and can only be obtained from the IRS. To obtain an IRS Tax Return Transcript, go to www.IRS.gov. Once you have turned in all necessary materials, allow at least four to six weeks for your verification to be processed. Turn in your completed verification by the June 30th priority date to ensure timely processing of your financial aid.
- Students who did not file and were not required to file 2015 taxes must list any income earned on item #3 of thedependent student Verification of Household Size and Income form for dependent students, provide W2's, and provide a a copy of the Verification of non-filing Letter from the IRS.
- Parents of dependent students who did not file and were not required to file 2015 taxes must list any income earned on Item #4 of the dependent student Verification of Household Size and Income form, provide W2's, and provide a copy of the Verification of Non-filing Letter from the IRS.
Verification of Non-filing letters can be obtained by submitting Form 4506-T (choose item #7) to the IRS. Questions about obtaining your Verification of Non-filing letter can be directed to the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
